Services

Catfood Quote Services (*.cqs) files define how Catfood Quote gathers data from different web sites. The Services dialog allows you to change the folder used to store services, install and update new services and control how Catfood Quote manages automatic updates.

By default Catfood Quote will store services in the folder where Catfood Quote was installed. Some computers operate in a "locked down" mode where it is not possible to write files to the Program Files folder. In this case you will need to change the location in order to install new services or benefit from automatic updates. Click the browse button (...) and pick a new folder (i.e. a folder in My Documents). You will also need to copy the service (*.cqs) files into this folder.

If you have a new service to install copy it to the Catfood Quote services folder and click Update. The update process will read in any new or changed service files and also connect to the Catfood Software web site and download any updates that are available.

Automatic Updates allow Catfood Quote to download any changes to the services that you have installed. This means that if a web site used to gather data changes you will quickly receive a new service file instead of needing to wait for a new release of Catfood Quote. You can choose from three options for how Catfood Quote handles updates:

Always ask before updating services. Every seven days Catfood Quote will prompt you to update services. This is the default setting.
Never automatically update services. Catfood Quote will never attempt to update services. You will have to click Update in the Services dialog to check for updates.
Update services without asking. Catfood Quote will automatically download service updates every seven days. This is the recommended setting.
